Mitsui HILET™ 2221 Porous Polyethylene Membrane  (discontinued **)
Categories: Polymer; Film; Thermoplastic; Polyethylene (PE)

Material Notes: HILET™ Porous Membrane is a polymeric membrane derived from ultra molecular weight polyethylene HI-ZEX® MILLION. Designed using a solvent poriferous procedure pioneered by Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., the company developed a low gauge polymeric membrane of high porosity and narrow pore size distribution without the use of organic fillers. HILET features high permeability and therefore low flow resistance during filtration and separation. In addition, the material retained the chemically stable properties of Polyethylene, so it has a low melting point to facilitate the closure of pores and reduction of flow through at elevated temperatures.

Available in sheet form, each sheet has a homogenous, three-dimensional structure (uniform pore size and distribution) with biaxial orientation. The film is relatively thin in consistency measuring about 1 mil in thickness with apertures ranging in size from 0.5 to 1 micron meters. HILET's property characteristics include:

  • High tensile strength
  • High flux and selectivity
  • Superb vapor permeability for greater media storage and longer filter life
  • Superior organic solvent, acid and water resistance
  • Excellent anti-friction and corrosion resistance
  • High durability and strong temperature tolerance yielding a low shrinkage ratio

Applications:

  • Enzyme harvesting in the biotechnology sector
  • Hemodialysis, drug detoxification and treatment of acute renal failure and liver and kidney functions in the medical arena
  • Removal of impurities in the food and beverage industry
  • Clean up of latex waste in the industrial water waste
  • Purification of drinking water
  • Removal of non biodegradable pollutants in the paper industry
  • Fuel cell proton exchange membrane material
  • Packing material for humidifiers
