Description: LAPONITE XLS is a synthetic layered silicate of low heavy metal content, incorporating an inorganic polyphosphate dispersing agent. LAPONITE XLS hydrates and swells in water to give clear and colorless colloidal dispersions of low viscosity known as sols. At 10% concentration in average tap water these will remain free-flowing for over 24 hours. On addition of small quantities of electrolyte, highly thixotropic gels are rapidly formed. Application: LAPONITE XLS may be used as a predispersed liquid concentrate and added to formulated products as required. It is used to impart a shear sensitive structure to a wide range of personal care products. For formulation information, refer to Laponite Technical Bulletin L211/97/d.
